On Wednesday April 3rd we will have spring photos taken again. This is the first week we are back from Spring Break so this is a heads up so you can get those haircuts etc. to be ready for the perfect picture. :) I may have told students it was this week but this is to confirm that photos are, in fact, after Spring Break.
This week we began our Mission Impossible obstacle course in the gym. We are practicing using our jumps, levels, rolls, etc. that we have been working on in our gymnastics unit. Please make sure your child is still wearing appropriate clothes, hair tied back, etc. so that they are safe and able to participate.
All library books are to be returned tomorrow before the break.
Here are the forms for our upcoming field trip to Telus Spark. Please print and send in when you come for conferences if you can. If you do not have a printer we can have a set of forms here for you to sign on Thursday or Friday. Fees can be paid online through your MyCBE account or in the office.

Upcoming Events
It has been wonderful to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather this week! Next week is set to be even warmer, which means students can expect to encounter lots of water and mud. Splash pants and rain boots may be wise choices leading up to Spring Break.
Conference Booking has opened for Student Led Conferences. Students are eager to share their learning with you. During this time, your child will lead you through a series of activities to show and explain the work they have been doing this term. The conferences are an opportunity for you, the parent, to display a positive interest in your child's progress, accept your child's evaluation of his/her accomplishments, and provide your child with support and encouragement for his/her work.
Bookings are one hour in length. Your arrival time is flexible, but please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for your child to share his/her work with you. This format will give you much more information about the work done in the classroom. I will be available throughout the conference to answer questions, however, this format is not private; other families will be present at the same time.

Please bring a bag to conferences as students will be taking home elements of their Arctic Diorama. We are glad for parents' help as some of these items are fragile.
Our field trip to Telus Spark is coming up on April 9th! We can't wait to explore. At this time, we have two parent volunteers and we need four volunteers. If you are available and would like to come along, please let me or our room parent know as soon as possible.
We have had a fantastic week with more guest readers for the Read-A-Thon. We had a special visit from the Calgary Roughnecks' Tyson Bell, and even Mrs. Broad from Heritage Park who came dressed in period costume.
We continued our Arctic Exploration and made marshmallow igloos. We learned that only a certain type of snow can be used to build a proper igloo. Ask your child what shape the blocks of snow need to be.

Busy times!
Wow, it has been a busy few weeks! The grade 2s were fortunate to have two in-school field trips. Constable Mattice and Constable Gemma visited to talk to us about what Police do in our community, and how we can build community. Our Storyteller Marie Bryce shared many different ways to communicate while telling stories.
We enjoyed the Pink Shirt Day assembly, hosted by the grade 3s.
Read-A-Thon has been going well! On Monday we kicked off the week with Mrs. Gelfand reading us one of her favourite stories "Something From Nothing".
Tuesday was PJ day and we had fun snuggling up to read with our stuffies.
On Wednesday, we had guest readers come from Auburn Bay House Seniors, Mrs.McKay and Mrs. Willard, who read to us about dinosuars, and about what teachers do when the kids go home. Next week, we will have a guest reader from Heritage Park who will read to us in costume! Please help your child to record the amount of time they are reading at home on their tracking sheet they brought home last week.

Gymnastics and Read-A-Thon
Our gymnastics unit starts on Monday. This unit will last from March 4 until Spring Break. To begin this unit, we review safety procedures with each class. Students in elementary school are not expected to change for physical education. When participating in gymnastics we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. In March we also celebrate reading! Please see the link below for further Read-a-Thon information. To celebrate reading, we will be having a PJ Day on Tuesday March 5th. Students will be invited to come to school dressed in their cozy pajamas. Each student can also bring their favorite stuffed animal. To wrap up the Read-A-Thon, students can come to school dressed as their favourite book character on Friday, March 15th! The Read-A-Thon form is an excellent way for students to read each night and track their reading minutes. Click below for more information.
